Nathan Gilley, MD

Instructor

Dr. Nathan Gilley grew up in Flintstone, GA (rural north Georgia near Chattanooga, TN). He went to Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN to earn his Bachelor’s degree, majoring in Biology and Religious Studies with minors in Chemistry and Missions. He obtained his Medical Doctorate from the Medical College of Georgia, and matched into this program (UTHSC-Nashville) for his family medicine residency. During residency he also fulfilled his church’s requirements for ordination and became an ordained minister in the Church of the Nazarene. After graduation, he served with the Samaritan’s Purse Post-Residency Program, at a rural critical access hospital on the North coast of Honduras (Hospital Loma de Luz), doing full spectrum family medicine in a tropical underserved region. Three years later, he was excited to move his family close to home and join the faculty of the UTHSC-Nashville Family Medicine Residency and the ministry of Ascension Saint Thomas. He is passionate about serving the underserved, global health, medical Spanish, and the intersection of religion and medicine. He loves teaching residents and cultivating a compassionate ministry worldview and global health interest in tomorrow’s primary health care providers. He and his wife have 5 children with whom they love to play outdoors, imagine, read, make music, garden, farm, weave, and worship.
