Residency Application Process

Application

The UTHSC Nashville General Surgery Residency Program uses an electronic application process through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

The following documents must be submitted:

  • Dean's Letter
  • Medical school transcript
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • USMLE transcript
  • Personal statement
  • Applicants with previous residency experience must submit letters from their previous program director

Completed applications will be reviewed after the Dean's letter is released on October 1st, and interviews will be granted on a rolling basis. ​Those candidates invited for interviews will be notified by email.


Interview Day

Interview invitations will be sent out starting in early October. Applicants will interview with the General Surgery Program Director and the Associate Program Director, as well as additional one-on-one interviews with faculty members and residents. Candidates will also have an opportunity to interact with several members of the faculty during lunch. The interview day will include a tour of Saint Thomas West Hospital and the residency facilities.  

Candidates will be invited to attend a dinner the night prior to their interview date.
