Research

The Ascension Saint Thomas Research Institute provides administrative support and regulatory oversight for research activity at Ascension Saint Thomas. Through ASTRI, we are able to offer our patients the latest available therapies, provide our physicians an opportunity to participate in clinical research, and provide the infrastructure required to perform clinical trials at our hospitals with the highest quality and safety measures.  Headquartered at Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital West, ASTRI is led by Dr. Geoffrey Smallwood, Chief Academic Officer and Dr. Evelio Rodriguez, Research Medical Director.

ASTRI has active trials in structural heart, electrophysiology, congestive heart failure, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and interventional cardiology.  Clinical trials include drug, device, post-market registries, investigator initiated, and early feasibility studies.
