As a part of the continued growth and expansion of our program, the UT-Nashville Family Medicine Residency Program added a one-year fellowship in obstetrics that began in the summer of 2019. The fellow helps oversee the care of prenatal patients at the Ascension Medical Group Saint Thomas (Saint Louise Clinic), where the family medicine residency clinic is located. The fellow will participate in vaginal and cesarean deliveries at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford, where approximately 3000 babies are born each year. The fellowship focus is on preparing the selected family physician for practicing family medicine obstetrics by achieving competency in normal vaginal births, operative vaginal (vacuum-assisted) and abdominal (cesarean) deliveries, prenatal care (including at risk pregnancies), standard obstetric ultrasound, and office gynecologic procedures.
