UTHSC-Nashville Family Medicine Residency Program
Obstetrics Fellowship

As a part of the continued growth and expansion of our program, the UT-Nashville Family Medicine Residency Program added a one-year fellowship in obstetrics that began in the summer of 2019. The fellow helps oversee the care of prenatal patients at the Ascension Medical Group Saint Thomas (Saint Louise Clinic), where the family medicine residency clinic is located. The fellow will participate in vaginal and cesarean deliveries at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford, where approximately 3000 babies are born each year. The fellowship focus is on preparing the selected family physician for practicing family medicine obstetrics by achieving competency in normal vaginal births, operative vaginal (vacuum-assisted) and abdominal (cesarean) deliveries, prenatal care (including at risk pregnancies), standard obstetric ultrasound, and office gynecologic procedures.

Rachel O'Beirne, D O

Hometown: Panhandle, Texas
Medical School: University of North Texas Health Science Center - Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine
Residency: University of Kansas School of Medicine - Wichita Family Medicine Residency at Via Christi
Hobbies/Interests: Traveling, snow-skiing, live music, sports events (especially Baylor football & basketball!), and spending time with my husband, newborn son, and family!
Before Medical School: I attended Baylor University and completed my degree in Business Management. During college, I was involved with hospice volunteering, intramural sports, Tri-Delta, and studied abroad in China. I also worked as a camp counselor, waitress, substitute teacher and medical scribe before medical school.
Why I chose UT-Nashville: I chose to do an obstetrics fellowship at UT-Nashville in order to better prepare me for a rural family medicine practice with surgical obstetrics. I was impressed with the faculty and training opportunities here to further my competency in obstetrics and ultrasound, and I am excited to work with the residents and faculty!
